Clinical Health Initiatives

Medical Camps

→ Sankar, GITAM Dental and General

  • In partnership with Sankar Eye Foundation, GITAM Medical College, and GITAM Dental College, we organized free ophthalmic, general medical, and dental camps for the residents of Viyyampeta.
  • The ophthalmology camp screened 194 residents, provided 109 pairs of prescription glasses, and facilitated 13 cataract surgeries. The general medical camp, staffed by 35 physicians from multiple specialties, screened 180 residents, offering health assessments, specialist consultations, medications, and individualized treatment plans at no cost. The dental camp, led by 20 dental professionals, examined 36 residents, provided preventive dental care, and performed 12 procedures, including fillings and extractions.
  • Together, these camps expanded access to essential healthcare services and connected hundreds of residents with free screenings, treatment, and follow-up care.

Alcohol and Non-Smoking Rehabilitation Program

→ GreenValley Foundation

  • In collaboration with the GreenValley Foundation, we will conduct a pilot rehabilitation program addressing alcohol use and smoking, two key health concerns identified in the community. The initiative will run alongside general medical camps and will include educational materials such as pamphlets and nicotine gum to support awareness and cessation efforts.
  • The program consists of four workshops: (1) a health education session covering the medical, social, and behavioral impacts of substance use; (2) yoga, mindfulness, and art therapy for stress reduction and coping; (3) a nutrition-based recovery module focused on practical dietary habits to support healing and reduce cravings; and (4) peer support and counseling with referrals to GreenValley professionals for continued care.
  • In addition, an awareness presentation on alcohol and tobacco will be delivered to village high school students to educate them early on health risks and prevention. This will be supported through follow-up surveys and sustained through biannual sessions led in collaboration with university student volunteers.

Biology Lab Replenishment

→ Self Funded

  • Following our visit to the ZP High School in Viyyampeta, we identified a need for additional science laboratory equipment and supplies. To support hands-on science education, we plan to replenish the school's biology and general science lab with essential materials, including microscopes, laboratory equipment, chemical reagents, anatomical models, safety equipment, and instructional resources. A laboratory safety manual will also be provided to ensure the proper handling of all materials.
  • To further encourage scientific learning, we aim to partner with an organization to host a STEM-based science competition. Students will develop innovative solutions to real-world challenges—such as water purification, infectious disease prevention, antimicrobial research, and sustainable agriculture—using the laboratory resources provided. This initiative is designed to foster curiosity, critical thinking, and long-term interest in STEM.
