We will deliver a presentation on the importance of nutrition and healthy eating to help students in Viyyampeta understand the benefits of a balanced, diverse diet. The presentation will explain what nutrition is, why it is essential for the body, and the effects and causes of poor nutrition, along with practical ways to prevent it. We will also highlight the importance of vitamins and minerals, introduce nutritious foods and balanced meal examples, and conclude with a short quiz to assess students' understanding.
Individual Planter Project
→ Self Funded
To reinforce our composting and nutrition lessons, students will participate in an Individual Planter Project by growing their own plants in small pots or containers kept in the classroom. Each student will receive seeds (such as chili seeds or other locally preferred plants) and soil to begin growing their plant. Throughout the school year, students will care for and monitor their plants, with teachers tracking their progress. The planters will be displayed in the classroom, allowing students to apply compost produced through the composting project and gain hands-on experience with sustainable gardening.
Composting Education & Bin Project
→Laya
This project provides teachers in Viyyampeta with classroom modules on composting, covering its importance, environmental and agricultural benefits, the role of microbes in decomposition, and what materials can and cannot be composted. Students will also learn how composting improves soil health, reduces waste, and supports sustainable farming.
To reinforce these lessons, students will help establish and maintain composting bins at the school, collecting organic waste from the cafeteria and managing the compost on a rotating schedule. The finished compost will be used on local farms as a natural alternative to chemical fertilizers, giving students hands-on experience in sustainable agriculture.
The project will be supported by LAYA, a rural development organization in Andhra Pradesh, which will provide composting materials, microbial cultures, technical guidance, and ongoing support for the composting system.
